Can I have specific sections or fields on a Dynamic File greyed out so they don't need to be filled out?

Dynamic Files & DocumentsDocument ConfigurationeDoc Suite/Dynamic FilesField Greying/Disabling on Dynamic Files

Yes, specific sections or fields on a Dynamic File can be greyed out (disabled) so that they are not fillable by any party. This is commonly used for:

- Sensitive fields that are not applicable (e.g., Social Security Number fields that should not be collected for certain form types)

- Entire sections of a page that do not need to be completed for your agency's use case

- Fields across all parties — greying out can be applied so that no signer or party can edit those areas

Greying out a field makes it visually distinct (appears greyed/shaded) and prevents data entry in that area of the Dynamic File.

How to request this change:

Greying out fields on a Dynamic File is a configuration change handled by the Bolt HC support team. To request it:

1. Submit a support ticket identifying the specific Dynamic File (document name and page number).

2. Clearly indicate which fields or sections should be greyed out. Annotated screenshots showing the exact areas are very helpful.

3. Specify whether the greying should apply to all parties or only certain signers.

4. The Bolt support team will update the Dynamic File configuration via the PDF Engine.

This change applies at the template level, so once updated, all future uses of that Dynamic File will reflect the greyed-out sections. Previously completed or submitted documents are not affected.
